Perhaps the dreaded 4 C's for anyone purchasing an engagement ring....below is an easy summary of the attributes, as defined by the Gemological Institute of America, the world's premier grading authority. 

CUT

Diamonds are cut in many different shapes. When it comes to shapes it is simply a matter of personal taste. The most popular shape is round brilliant which has 58 facets.

Other shapes are oval, emerald, heart, marquise, pear, princess, radiant and triangle.

Carat measurement of weight. Diamonds are priced per carat. The bigger the Diamond, the higher value it will possess per carat.

COLOR

The colour of a Diamond is rated from the letters D to Z, D being the finest colourless (white) and Z being a dark yellow color.

CLARITY

Natural inclusions are internal imperfections that determine the clarity of a Diamond. The fewer the imperfections the greater it's rarity and value.    

Where are natural Diamonds found?

The Diamond fields of South Africa were discovered in 1876 and is the most famous source of the world's diamonds. Besides South Africa, Diamonds are also found in Botswana, Congo, Namibia and Angola.
