Tanzanite Education

The New Royalty in the Gemstone Family – Tanzanite

Rare and beautiful, Tanzanite was only discovered in the 1960’s on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, in the Arusha region of Tanzania. Formed approximately 600million years ago, this once secret treasure is now amongst the most popular of precious gems. The stone’s inherent brilliance and unique royal hues of violet blues are hypnotic to the eyes. With supply being limited to a single major mine in Tanzania and ever growing global demand, Tanzanite is the ultimate precious gem to include in any jewelry collection.

How do I know the Tanzanite I’m considering buying is genuine?

Always ensure you’re purchasing your tanzanite from a reputable jewelry dealer. Tanzanite can be easily confused with similar coloured stones such as Iolite and Sapphire to an untrained eye. Also with growing demand and an ever increasing price trend, more and more imitation and poor quality enhanced colour coated tanzanite is circulating in the market. A reputable jeweler will ensure that your tanzanite jewelry is genuine and graded accurately.

At Maslov Jewels we guarantee the authenticity of our stones. If in the very unlikely event (this has never happened ever) that your Tanzanite jewelry is not genuine, we will gladly take the item back and replace/refund you no questions asked.

How do I care for my Tanzanite jewelry?

You can use warm water and a very mild soap, or a steamer to safely clean your tanzanite jewelry. Do NOT use an ultrasonic cleanser because it can cause the tanzanite to crack.

Can I wear my Tanzanite jewelry every day?

Tanzanite should be worn like any other fine jewelry. You can wear your tanzanite every day as long as you are not partaking in any rigorous activities that can cause the stone to chip or scratch. It is highly advisable that you remove all your jewelry when showering, bathing, washing dishes and gardening, as this will most certainly cause your jewelry to lose its lustre or even worse get damaged
